THE HAWKSWORTH CONVERSION x 2-- JACK HAWKSWORTH SURVIVES A RACE OF ATTRITION AND SCORES BACK-TO-BACK WINS FROM THE POLE IN STAR MAZDA RACE 2 AT THE TORONTO INDY

Toronto, Canada / July 8, 2012 – By pretty much any standards, Race 2 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear double-header at this weekend's Toronto Indy was an ugly mess – any race with three full-course yellows and a finish that sees the pace car cross the finish line first isn't the way you want to see it go… even if you happen to be leading with a tire going down and the race ending several laps early under yellow probably kept you from getting passed in a last-lap shootout. More about that in a moment.

Aesthetics aside, however, on display between the carnage and yellow flags was some diamond-hard, laser-precise driving of the sort that makes Star Mazda one of the top open wheel driver development series in the world today.

THE HAWKSWORTH CONVERSION -- JACK HAWKSWORTH TRANSFORMS HIS FOURTH POLE OF THE SEASON INTO HIS THIRD VICTORY IN STAR MAZDA RACE 1 AT THE TORONTO INDY

Toronto, Canada / July 7, 2012 – Team Pelfrey driver Jack Hawksworth re-asserted his position in the 2012 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear with his third victory from the pole in Race 1 of the Star Mazda double-header at this weekend's Toronto Indy. Controlling the race from flag to flag – despite a standing start that left two cars stalled on the grid and several race incidents resulting in full-course yellows – Hawksworth brought his #82 Team Pelfrey / TORGOEN Swiss Watches / EXA Networks Mazda home 0.295 second ahead of Zach Veach, who started 3rd in the #77 Andretti Autosport / K12 / Zakosi Data Backup Mazda, and 1.156 seconds ahead of Gabby Chaves, who started 7th in the #19 JDC Motorsports / CLARO / Marca Colombia / Tecpro Mazda. Chaves now has three podium finishes this season and moves up to third in the points; Veach has two podiums, with today's result his best so far.

WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MOTHER NATURE, JACK HAWKSWORTH CLAIMS HIS FOURTH PEAK PERFORMANCE POLE OF THE STAR MAZDA SEASON FOR SATURDAY'S RACE 1 AT THE TORONTO INDY

Toronto, Canada / July 7, 2012 – With a little help from Mother Nature, and a record-setting hot lap, Team Pelfrey driver Jack Hawksworth and his #82 Team Pelfrey / TORGOEN Swiss Watches / EXA Networks Mazda took their fourth PEAK Performance Pole Award of the season this morning's qualifying in Race 1 of the Star Mazda double-header at this weekend's Indy Toronto. Starting on the outside of the front row will be Sage Karam, winner on the Iowa Speedway oval two weeks ago in the #88 Andretti Autosport / Comfort Revolution Mazda. Hawksworth has won two races so far this season and is second in the championship. Karam, fourth in the championship, has won three races in his two seasons of Star Mazda competition (including two Milwaukee and Iowa in 2011), but has yet to win on a road course.

FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH – SHOWING THE SAME FORM THAT LET HIM DOMINATE AT IOWA SPEEDWAY TWO WEEKS AGO, SAGE KARAM SETS QUICK TIME IN STAR MAZDA PRACTICE 2 AT TORONTO

Toronto, Canada / July 6, 2012 – Sage Karam, the 2011 Star Mazda Rookie of the Year and race winner on the Iowa Speedway oval two weeks ago, showed that same dominant form in today's final Star Mazda practice session at the Toronto Indy. His lap of 108.793 in the #88 Andretti Autosport / Comfort Revolution Mazda was 4/10ths clear of second-quick Petri Suvanto and just 4/100ths shy of the lap record of 1:08.755 set by Dane Cameron in 2007, the last year that Star Mazda raced in the streets of Toronto.

THE WEEKEND OF MANY HATS -- STAR MAZDA RETURNS TO THE STREETS OF TORONTO FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2007 WITH A FULL SCHEDULE OF RACING, RECRUITING, TV AND VISITING VIPs

Toronto, Canada / June 29, 2012 – Returning to the 2.84-kilometer, 11-turn street circuit for the first time since 2007 – a race won by Dane Cameron, who went on to win the series championship – the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear heads into a run of three straight Canadian street races – beginning with this weekend's Toronto Indy.

And if ever there was a prime example of the multiple hats a modern race driver is required to wear, it's this weekend's schedule for the Star Mazda drivers; not only are there two Star Mazda races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, along with the usual driver meetings and autograph sessions, but drivers will also be holding meetings with VIPs from Mazda Canada who are attending the race to find out what this Mazda Road to Indy is all about – racing scholarships for series champions from karting to IndyCar -- and how they can get involved.
