A TWO MAN WAR NO MORE – CHILEAN RACER MARTIN SCUNCIO SCORES HIS FIRST-EVER STAR MAZDA VICTORY WITH A WIN FROM THE OUTSIDE POLE IN RACE 2 AT BARBER

Barber Motorsports Park / April 1, 2012 – For a while, a little while, it looked as though the 2012 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear was shaping up to be a two-man war, between Californian Connor De Phillippi, now in his third season of Star Mazda competition, and English racer Jack Hawksworth, a hungry rookie with a very heavy right foot. De Phillippi won Race 1 in the St. Pete season-opener last weekend; Hawksworth won Race 2, and followed that up with a dominant win in Race 1 at the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama earlier today. So there was every reason to believe one of the two would win Race 2 this afternoon.

BACK-TO-BACK HAWKS – ENGLISH ROOKIE JACK HAWKSWORTH WINS SECOND STAR MAZDA RACE IN A ROW WITH A DOMINANT FLAG-TO-FLAG RUN IN RACE 1 AT BARBER

Barber Motorsports Park / April 1, 2012 – Englishman Jack Hawksworth, fresh off a win from the pole in Race 2 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear season opener at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg last weekend, has won his second race in a row – from the pole – in today's Star Mazda Race 1. Driving his #82 Team Pelfrey / TORGOEN Swiss Watches / EXA Networks Mazda, Hawksworth (black suit) crossed the finish line 6.9 second ahead of 2nd-place finisher Sage Karam (orange / white) in the #88 Andretti Autosport / Comfort Revolution Mazda. This was his first podium of the season after winning two races last year but getting off to a rocky start with mechanical problems in Round 1 at St. Pete.

HAWKSWORTH WINS SECOND PEAK PERFORMANCE POLE AWARD IN A ROW WITH
SPLIT-SECOND EFFORT IN WET STAR MAZDA QUALIFYING FOR RACE 1 AT BARBER
– RACE DELAYED DUE TO WEATHER; RACE 1 AND 2 WILL RUN SUNDAY –

Barber Motorsports Park / March 30, 2012 – Englishman Jack Hawksworth, fresh off a win from the pole in Race 2 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear season opener at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg last weekend, has won his second PEAK Performance Pole Award in a row with a split-second effort on a soaking wet track here at Barber Motorsports Park.

Driving the #82 Team Pelfrey / TORGOEN Swiss Watches / EXA Networks Mazda amid a flock of rooster-tails, he took the premium starting spot on the gird – if there can be said to be such a thing under these conditions – by a mere 93/100ths of a second over Martin Scuncio in the #22 Juncos Racing / Pullman Bus Mazda.

BACK AND FORTH BATTLE BETWEEN HAWKSWORTH AND DE PHILLIPPI CONTINUES IN THURSDAY'S TWO STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP PRACTICE SESSIONS AT THE INDY GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA

Barber Motorsports Park / March 29, 2012 – The first two Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear practice sessions on Thursday presented a replay of the battle between Connor De Phillippi and Jack Hawksworth that defined the season-opener at last weekend's Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. De Phillippi won Race 1 of the weekend's double-header, while Hawksworth won Race 2. Both won from the pole.

EXPERIENCE vs. HUNGER – THE BATTLE FOR THE 2012 STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY GOODYEAR COMES TO THE INDY GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA FOR ROUND 2 THIS WEEKEND

Barber Motorsports Park / March 28, 2012 – The battle for the 2012 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear has been well and truly joined, and it seems to be shaping up as a battle between experience and hunger, between drivers who have a season or two of experience in Star Mazda vs. hungry young rookies with raw speed and a willingness to push the envelope right to the ripping point.
