CONNOR DE PHILLIPPI WINS STAR MAZDA RACE 2 AT 42nd ANNUAL GP3R AND BECOMES FIRST THREE-RACE WINNER SO FAR IN THE 2011 SEASON Trois-Rivières, Quebec / August 7, 2011 – California racer Connor De Phillippi, who already has two wins to his credit so far this season, became the first three-race winner of the 2011 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear season with his victory in today's Race 2 / Round 8 at the 42nd annual GP3R at Trois-Rivières De Phillippi, who finished 5th yesterday and started 5th on the grid for today's race, took the lead at the 2/3rds mark in his #11 Team Pelfrey / Justice Brothers Products / Trademark Garage Floors Mazda and, by the time the checkered waved, had opened up a 3.4-second gap on his Team Pelfrey teammate Nick Andries, who finished 2nd in the #81 Team Pelfrey / Lithionics Battery / GS610 Brake Fluid / Trademark Garage Floors Mazda. Andries started 3rd and finished 3rd yesterday, and today's results brings to five the number of times he has finished on the podium so far this season. |
FOLLOW THE LEADER -- FRENCH RACER TRISTAN VAUTIER WINS FROM THE POLE IN STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 1 OF THIS WEEKEND'S DOUBLE-HEADER AT THE 42nd ANNUAL GP3R Trois-Rivières, Quebec / August 6, 2011 – Tristan Vautier of Grenoble, France has scored his second victory of the 2011 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear season in Race 1 / Round 7 of a double-header at the 42nd annual GP3R at Trois-Rivières. Vautier (center) started from the pole in his #5 JDC Motorsports / Cecibon / Circuit du Laquais Mazda and will start from the pole again in tomorrow's Race 2 / Round 8 by virtue of having set the fastest lap of the race today. Vautier's other victory, also from the pole, came in Round 2 at Barber Motorsports Park and he has maintained his lead in the championship with a quartet of top-5 finishes in Rounds 3 – 6. Vautier joins Connor De Phillippi and Sage Karam on the list of drivers with two wins so far this season. |
TRISTAN VAUTIER ON POLE FOR STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 7 AT THIS WEEKEND'S DOUBLE-HEADER AT THE 42nd ANNUAL GP3R AT TROIS-RIVIÈRES Trois-Rivières, Quebec / August 5, 2011 – French racer Tristan Vautier, who won from the pole in Round 2 at Barber Motorsports Park, has scored his second pole of the season for Round 7 of this weekend's Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear double-header at the 42nd annual GP3R at Trois-Rivières. Vautier, the championship points leader since Round 2, turned a time of 1:01.542 in his #5 JDC Motorsports / Cecibon / Circuit du Laquais Mazda. The time is just 2/10ths shy of the lap record of 1:01.341 set by Texan Rusty Mitchell in 2009 but marks a return to form for the young native of Grenoble, France, who has had to content himself with a quartet of top-5 finishes since his last visit to the top step of the podium. |
