De Phillippi's lap of 19.999 (123.486 mph) decisively disposed of the previous record, a 20.665 set last year by current Indy Lights driver Mikael Grenier. |
Nick Andries Out Front as Practice Kicks Off for Night Before the 500 Indianapolis, Indiana. (May 27, 2011) - After a busy week of activities at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as part of the Mazda Road to Indy the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear, drivers finally climbed into their cars for a three hour test session at Lucas Oil Racewayon Friday night and Nick Andries served notice that he would be a force to be reckoned with this weekend. Driving the #81 Lithionics Battery Team Pelfrey Mazda, Andries, from Pinellas Park, Florida, set a fast lap of 19.972 around the 0.686-mile circuit, shattering the lap record of 20.665 set in 2010 by current Indy Lights Driver Mikael Grenier. Eight other drivers lapped under Grenier's mark in the promoter test session for this weekend's Night Before the 500. Official Practice for Round Three of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear gets underway tomorrow morning at 11:35AM Eastern Time. |
