DER FOGMEISTER – DEMPSEY ON POLE FOR THIS AFTERNOON'S 2009 STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON FINALE AT MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca / Oct. 10 – During a nail-biting qualifying session, notable both for the fog in which it occurred and last-moment drama of a battle of tenths between the two remaining title contenders, it was Peter 'The Irish Steamroller' Dempsey who scored his fifth pole of the season and will occupy the inside of the front row for the start of the season finale of the 2009 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. His lap of 1:20.109 (100.573 mph) in the #3 Juncos Racing / The Collection / Motorsport Ireland / Queyside.ie Mazda was just shy of the outright Star Mazda Championship lap record set in qualifying for this race last year – a 1:19.935 – by the driver who went on to victory (but will start from 9th on the grid this year) Richard Kent.

DEMPSEY STILL QUICKEST BUT NEW PLAYERS APPEAR IN FINAL FRIDAY PRACTICE FOR THE 2009 STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON FINALE AT MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca / Oct. 9 – You know a man is well-nicknamed when he keeps proving the validity of it over and over again. On top of five wins so far this season, and a sufficient lead in the Series points championship that he need only finish 6th or better in tomorrow's final race of the 2009 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear, Peter 'The Irish Steamroller' Dempsey has already staked his claim to tomorrow by being quickest in both practice sessions today.

DEMPSEY QUICK IN FIRST OFFICIAL FRIDAY PRACTICE SESSION FOR THE 2009 STAR MAZDA CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON FINALE AT MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca / Oct. 9 – Leading championship contender Peter Dempsey began the process of revealing his true pace in Friday morning's first official practice session for the season finale of the 2009 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. After turning 5th and 2nd-fast times in the two test sessions during Thursday's 'promoter test day,' Dempsey, driving the #3 Juncos Racing / The Collection / Motorsport Ireland / Queyside.ie Mazda, unleashed a corker - 1:20.362 (100.256 mph), more than half a second faster than his best time of Thursday and almost 3/10ths of a second clear of the second-fastest driver in the Friday morning session, Conor Daly. Driving the #22 Andersen Racing / College Network / Indeck / Cytomax Mazda, Daly turned a 1:20.620 (99.935 mph), a significant improvement on his best time of yesterday, an 8th-place 1:21.08 in the morning session. Daly, the son of racing legend Derek Daly, was the 2008 Skip Barber Pro Series champion and is racing the 2009 Star Mazda Championship with funding from the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Driver Development Ladder.
