(141.892 mph). And Dennis Navarro, the man who held the top time for most of the session and was in Dempsey's crosshairs on that lap, will start on the outside of the front row with a lap of 22.216 sec. (141.790 mph) in his #21 Andersen Racing / Navarro Medicines Distribution / Allied Interior Products Mazda.

Iowa Speedway (July 10, 2009) – Under threatening skies opening practice for Round Seven of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear kicked off at Iowa Speedway with Peter Dempsey of Ashbourne, Ireland topping the time sheets with a lap of 22.066 (142.754 MPH) in his Juncos Racing / Hooters / Irish Motorsports Council Pro Formula Mazda shortly before heavy rains washed out the final 30 minutes of practice for the Inaugural Pizza Ranch 100.
