JOHN EDWARDS WINS STAR MAZDA RACE 2 AT MAZDA GRAND PRIX OF Portland, Oregon (July 27, 2008) -- John Edwards, winner of Round 2 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Miller Motorsports Park, repeated the feat with a freight-train run from the front row in Star Mazda Race 2 / Round 5 this Sunday at the Mazda Grand Prix of Portland. Finishing 2nd was Saturday race winner and Sunday pole-sitter Tom Gladdis, followed by Round 1 winner Joel Miller. The top-finishing Expert Series driver, scoring his fourth class victory of the season and second win of the weekend was Vancouver, B.C. native Chris Cumming. Leading the Master Series drivers across the finish line was 3-time winner, Californian Chuck Hulse.

-- A PAIR OF POLES FOR GLADDIS -- Tom Gladdis, the 17 year-old racer from the English territory of Gibraltar, scored his second consecutive Star Mazda Championship pole for this afternoon's Round 5 of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear. This is the first of two Star Mazda events being held at the Mazda Grand Prix of Portland, and his lap of 1:08.722 (103.565 mph) in the #5 Andersen Racing / Law firm of Marrache & Co. / Allied Building Products places him on the inside of the front row for the spectacular standing start that is a new feature of Star Mazda Championship races for 2008. Starting next to him, as he did in Race 1 on Saturday, will be Miller Motorsports Park winner John Edwards (#7 AIM Autosport Mazda) with a lap of 1:09.001 (103.146 mph). Slotting in third on the grid is Charles Hall (#77 Andersen Racing / Blimpie / AccentBanking.com/Pardoes Solicitors / Allied Building Products Mazda) with a time of 109.151 (102.923 mph).

This is the first of two Star Mazda events being held at the Mazda Grand Prix of Portland, and his lap of 1:08.936 (103.244 mph) in the #5 Andersen Racing / Law firm of Marrache & Co. / Allied Building Products will see him starting on the inside of the front row. Starting next to him will be Round 2 winner John Edwards, followed by Irishman Peter Dempsey, Californian Billy Goshen and Louisiana racer Alex Ardoin who won the final round of the 2007 Star Mazda Championship.
