2001 Southwest Formula Mazda Series Concludes

Quad Boenker – Champion  Dan Tomlin III – 2nd Place J.J. Fischer – 3rd Place and Rookie of the Year

The 2001 Southwest Formula Mazda Series concluded it’s season on July 7th and 8th.  The last two races were held at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, Texas.  Following the race on Sunday, the Series held its banquet to honor the Top Ten Finishers with awards, cash, and prizes.  Al (Quad) Boenker, IV (Fort Worth) was crowned the Champion for the 3rd consecutive year.  Dan Tomlin III (Dallas), with two first place finishes over the weekend, jumped ahead to take 2nd place away from J.J. Fischer.   J.J. Fischer (Tyler) finished 3rd and was also named Rookie of the Year.  Steve Cook (Pass Christian, MS) was Masters Champion.  Cash and Prizes were awarded as follows:

Champion – Quad Boenker – 91 Mazda Miata (Approx Value $5,000.) and $2,753.52 Cash
2nd Place  -  Dan Tomlin III - $1500 Pi Research $500 Taylor Race Eng Pyrotech Firesuit & $2,411.64 Cash

4th Place – Todd Garner - $650. Pi Research, $400 Racetech and $2,143.68 Cash
5th Place -  Russ Wiseman - $600 Pi Research  $250 Performance Driving School and $1,940.40 Cash
6th Place – Steve Cook - $400 Taylor Race Eng $250 Performance Driving School and $1,774.08 Cash
7th Place – Nur B. Ali - $500. Pi Research Gift Certificate and $1,774.08 Cash
8th Place – Darryl Wills - $300. Taylor Race Engineering Gift Certificate and $1,478.40 Cash
