McDowell Secures Grand Am Cup Ride

5/10/04 - Phoenix, AZ.

Michael McDowell announced today that he has secured a ride in the Grand Am Cup for this season. This will be McDowell’s first endeavor into the world of fendered racing and he is looking forward to it. McDowell was hired by Finlay Motorsports, “I have met a lot of talented drivers during my racing career,” stated owner Rob Finlay, “but Michael McDowell has one of the best total packages.” Mr. Finlay himself will share the seat in selected events later in the season.

Michael McDowell’s first Sports Car event will take place at the world famous Mont Tremblant Circuit in Quebec, Canada. McDowell will be driving with BGB Motorsports in a 996 Porsche, competing in GS. McDowell is going to be sharing the ride with former Formula Zetec standout, Andy Brumbaugh. This will be the first time the two have shared a seat but not the track. McDowell and Brumbaugh grew up racing go-karts against each other in the Phoenix, AZ area. “It is going to be fun to have Andy as a teammate, we have known each other for a long time,” said McDowell, “and he can certainly drive.”

BGB Motorsports is one of the top teams in the Grand Am paddock, having won multiple races last season including Mont Tremblant. “We are excited to add Michael McDowell’s name to the list of talented drivers we have had the pleasure of working with,” said team Manager Duane Neyer. Among others, former Star Mazda competitor Guy Cosmo was responsible for putting the BGB car out front in 2003. “I am excited to be running in the Grand Am series,” said McDowell, “and even more so to be doing it with BGB and Finlay Motorsports.”
