To All Star FM Racers:

May has been a busy month for Star Formula Mazda racers all over the country. Warm weather areas are past mid-season already, while more northern parts of the world are now in full swing. The Western Series just concluded round 8 at Willow Springs, only one week after doing rounds 6 and 7 at Thunderhill. Results, points, and Jane Anderson’s stories about all three races are included here.

The next month brings Formula Mazdas from far and wide to the June Sprints at Road America, starting with a test day Thursday, June 21st, and concluding Sunday, June 24th. To reiterate the details of the cash purse for the FM class at this race:

Also, Goodyear will reward the top three finishing FM drivers on Goodyear tires with free tires for the 2001 SCCA Runoffs at Mid Ohio in September. We are reprinting the June Sprints entry form here for your convenience. Send it directly to the race organizers, not to us.

The new rain tires are now available from Goodyear. The tire codes are D1340 for fronts and D1341 for rears. They are the same size as always – 8x20x13 front, 10x22x13 rear – but with a slightly different compound (085 instead of 080). These tires are legal for Star Mazda Series races.

The next Western Division race will be round 9 at the Irwindale ˝ mile. This will also be the finale of the Red Line Oil Oval Track Championship. Irwindale is a fabulous facility, convenient to the Los Angeles Metro market, and racing under the lights in front of that

crowd is always a thrill. The entry form for the race is attached. Please get it in early so we can get your info into the program and do press releases for L.A. area drivers and top points people. We always get “ink” for this event.

The next Star Mazda Series North American Championship event will be at Sears Point with the American LeMans Series, July 21st. The weekend starts with a test day Thursday, July 19th. The Star Mazda race will be Saturday afternoon, following ALMS qualifying. These entries also need to be in well in advance of the event for publicity purposes. The form and schedule are enclosed.

In-car cameras are generally booked up far in advance of the race date. If you wish to provide yourself and your sponsor with the extra coverage on television, contact our office right away so we can take your request into consideration. The network requires a long lead time to reserve the equipment. Some races are already fully booked.

If you have any unused Best Western room nights, fair warning: make your reservations through our office, Norma – 818-909-5355, before the end of June or risk losing them. Time is about to expire.

Great news for Star Formula Mazda owners and drivers in the Sears Point Area! Huffaker Engineering is now your local Star Race Cars dealer. They have an excellent inventory of parts on hand and are ready to address whatever needs you may have. Please refer to the press release here for more details. We know you will enjoy working with this premier quality shop.

Congratulations to Scott Jenkins for his three-race win streak. Well done.

See you at the races!

Sincerely,
Gary E. Rodrigues
