Oval Races Net Title Sponsor

FRIDAY, MARCH 3, 2000 - Included in this year's 12-race Star Mazda Series West Division schedule are three oval races that will also be counted as a separate championship - the Red Line Oil Oval Championship. With the West Division series' first race this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway,
it will also be the opening event in the oval championship. The other two oval races will be at Irwindale Speedway, June 3, and then July 8, at Mesa Marin.

As title sponsor of the oval championship, Red Line Oil will reward the top three drivers in the oval points with custom Red Line Oil driver suits as well as cash prizes (1st place = $3,000; 2nd place = $2,000 and 3rd place = $1,000). Red Line Oil products will also be provided to the top three drivers for the remainder of the 2000 Star Mazda racing season.

"We've always been proud of our support of the training-ground series, and we're especially pleased to be involved in one such as the Star Mazda Series," said Tim Kerrigan, Red Line Oil president. "And, I think we have a lot in common with the Formula Mazda concept of reliability."

All drivers entered in the Star Mazda Series are eligible for the Red Line Oil Oval Championship. "Red Line is a proven product, and I know a lot of our teams already use the oils as well as the famous Water Wetter as part of their racing regimen," said Star Mazda Series administrator Gary Rodrigues. "We're certainly pleased to have Red Line join our sponsorship lineup."
