Best Western Champion To Receive PTG Test
The Star Mazda Series Best Western Championship has announced details of a driver
enhancement program that will feature a unique testing opportunity for the 1999
champion.
BMW Team PTG, which has won three consecutive Professional Sports Car Racing
(PSCR) class titles and ranks as one of the premier sports car racing organizations
in the country, has agreed to provide the test session for this year's top points
getter.
The Star Mazda Series Best Western Championship includes six, ESPN2-televised
races that highlight some of the best up-and-coming drivers in the sport. The
test, which will likely take place sometime after the season concludes in November,
will award the top driver in the Star Mazda Best Western Championship a comprehensive
session with PTG.
"Our common goal is to hopefully provide a career-opportunity,"
said PTG team owner Tom Milner. He added that the Best Western/PTG test should
be completed sometime before the team begins its preparations for the Daytona
24-hour race.
"The objective of our series has always been to develop American driving
talent," said Star Mazda Series administrator Gary Rodrigues. "It
is certainly a pleasure to put together a program with PTG that supports this
goal and may help launch a career."
